BeWelcome News - February 2009

Dear %s,

Welcome to a new year of hospitality!

2009 is not only the year of important changes (started by the election of Barack Obama as the new American president), it is also the year of the ox, according to Chinese belief. As a zodiac sign, the ox stands for prosperity and success through fortitude and hard work. It is a sign of power but also of patience and hard labour.

Just like the Chinese ox BeWelcome is growing steadily through continuous work. Thanks to you we have a great website and many innovative ideas are waiting to be realized. Generous donations (including 200 Euro from a member in Catalonia, Spain!) make it possible to pay for the servers and continue the success story of our project. With only 700 Euro more we can pay a new server and offer fast access to new members from all around the world.

Volunteer Café

The "volunteer cafés" have become our main chat meetings for the community. The next one will take place on March 5th, 20:00 CET. We want to discuss ways to organize local activities (BeLocal). Please join in at http://www.bewelcome.org/chat!

General Assembly 2009

Once a year members of BeVolunteer (BeWelcome members are encouraged to participate, too) meet for the general assembly, a real life meeting with discussions, workshops and the democratic election of the new board of directors of BeVolunteer. The last meeting took place at the Linux Hotel in Essen, Germany, in May 2008, the year before in Brussels. For 2009 we would like to ask your feedback on possible location and date (usually a weekend is needed). Please post your feedback in the forum in this thread.

P.S. Did you know that nearly 50% the BeWelcome website has already been translated into Esperanto? So far we have 29 working languages.
