Candidates for Board of Directors

  • sammiekong - Wed, 10 Aug 16 17:46:01 +0200sammiekong

I have been a member of the last BoD. I have enjoyed the good atmosphere and team spirit of working with other board members, and I have enjoyed all the work we have done together to try to help BeWelcome moved forward. There are still many things that we can improve, and I want to be part of the team to push this forward. By working closely with the BoD members (monthly meeting) for one year, I actually feel like they are my family around the world, and this is like a bonus added. As volunteering in Translation, Moderator and Spam Checking take time and energy, I can offer my service to continue with the non-legal role of Volunteer Recruiter or Coordinator. As volunteers are the roots of BeWelcome, recruiting new volunteers and maintenance of current volunteers are like pullulating the roots of BW to make it grow better, I think this is a very meaningful task. With what I learnt from the past year in BoD, I should be ok to take some vice role to assist some other works also if need. I wish more BV members will get involved, and present your candidacies to BoD. As this will enable you to see the whole picture of the project and to have deeper understanding on many things, why it's like this, how it came this way and where things will be leaded to. If you are kind of regularly volunteering for BW already, why not take this ++? :-)

I had enjoy the constructive atmosphere felt in the previous BoD: i believe that we was a team and for we done a lot of things. Even i often feel that the BoD receive a lot of delegation, even when was not proper to assign to BoD some tasks. Im a bit afraid about the time what i can dedicate for the BoD cause next year i will be busy (proper job reason) and so its realist to discuss what can be the reasonable priority. I want to be clear: i can candidate just for one year,no more and due the described scenario, for me is possibile a BoD task as secretary and give an hand to NMBW. So accept my candidacy it would means accept that i leave Support Team and the less bod tasks rather last year.

duesseldorf - Sun, 06 Nov 16 15:02:47 +0100 As there has not been any other candidate except Sammiekong until the minute of the questions to the BoD candidates and therefor BeVolunteer is in danger of existence . I present myself again. I have been the CEO for the last two years during which I thoroughly enjoyed to work in a very active and motivated BoD team. For the upcoming year I did not want to continue on the Board because I wanted to focus more on my volunteering in the different teams I am member of (Safety Team and above all the communication team). I wanted to focus on writing newsletters, press releases and finally create a communication concept. And I want to go forward with the process of getting officially non-profit which would be possible also without being member of the BoD. If I get elected to the BoD again I will probably not be able to do all that. Because one thing I can already warn everybody about: I will not have as much time in the upcoming year as in the past two years to dedicate to BeWelcome. So as a member of the BoD I will probably be even more invisible and not able to drive BeWelcome forward as much as expected from a Board member. And: I will immediately resign if I get appointed as treasurer. (no joke!)

thorgal67 As there has not been any candidate for the position of treasurer (one of the 2 official positions that need to be fulfilled) I present my candidature for that position. I have been the treasurer of BV in the past, and have some basic knowledge on bookkeeping and managing accounts. I will be available for monthly meetings and for routine tasks, and will do my best to help out with other administrative task. I will however not take any decision yet regarding my membership of other volunteer teams. If you think the position of treasurer/BoD membership is not compatible with forum moderation/safety team membership, then please do not vote for me

wind I hereby present myself as a candidate again. I have been member of the BoD for the past three years. I have been treasurer in the past and do not feel like being it for another term. If I get elected I will not be available as a treasurer again. But I will do my best to help BeWelcome in the upcoming year. Update on Monday morning: I think the top priority for the next year is to support all the volunteers involved in re-design and re-coding. Besides that the BoD should maybe focus on the key areas (formal and legal stuff, finances, coordination, communication with the teams, media, co-operations with other non-profit associations with similar values) and give some tasks back to the community or to the BV members group. An optional task for the BoD might be the stimulation of local events and local discussions, while the topic media will be covered by BoD and communications team together.

Important information about voting

Every year there is the opportunity to vote on several subjects. Polls will be organised with the poll tool connected to a group created only for the GA. Active BV members will receive an invitation to this group. Only members of this group are able to vote. This year 28 members declared themselves active and will cast their votes. That means an absolute majority is by 15 votes and for all topics (also BoD candidates) absolute majority is needed. So please vote on ALL topics, not voting will in the end only counted negative as well.
