TELECOMMUNICATIONS

TELEPHONE: Greek numbers have the international calling code +30 followed by 10 digits. +302xxxxxxxxx are landlines and +3069xxxxxxxx are mobiles. Here are listed some ways to make a phone call, from the cheapest to the more expensive price per minute.

  • Public card phones accept prepaid cards such as the chipped Telekarta, which costs 4E and includes 96' to landlines (0,038Euro/52"), or 26' to mobiles. You can also use other prepaid cards without a chip, but no credit cards.
  • Kiosks have pay phones where you can put a coin and make your call. Rate to be confirmed...
  • Roaming with a EU SIM costs 0,12Euro/30" (+your local tax) because of EU roaming regulations. If you don't have an EU number yet, you can get a UK or Estonian number which doesn't charge incoming calls in most countries. These SIMs are sold also in Greece, such as planetsim.
  • Greek SIMs are given for free (or 1) at the exit of metro stations or in the street. All packs cost between 0,486 and 0,594 Euro/min. It's more expensive than roaming because it's not regulated, but some packs will give you discounts if you recharge more than 5Euro. While most packs charge per minute, these packs charge per second: Cosmote frogmobile, or Wind Q telecoms.
  • Roaming might work with SIMs of USA, Canada, Russia, Australia, Switzerland, Turkey, Israel, but prices are usually more expensive than with a EU number. Check with your provider if they offer phone calls or SMS only, and if there is some roaming offers.
