About the town
Rheinau is a small village in Baden-Württemberg, a state in South Germany. It is located between the river Rhine in the West, next to the border to France, and the Black Forest in the East.
You can visit the towns websites here:
There are 9 smaller villages which form Rheinau and the population is about 11,000.
Thanks to its favourable position near the autobahn in France and the A5 in Germany, and also the airport "Baden-Airpark" which can be reached in about 20 minutes, the town developed its trade and industry a lot in the last few years.
Sports and other Activities
Even so it is still a quite rural region. But there are a lot of destinations around to visit and if you like to be in nature it is an excellent starting point. For cycling, hiking or swimming in lakes or several winter sports there are a lot of options around the Rhein, in the Black Forest or in the Vogesen (which is a low mountain range in Alsace/France).
If you want to know more about some sights around, you should visit the following websites:

Some bigger cities around are Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Offenburg and last but not least Baden-Baden, which is a quite famous and worth seeing town. Strasbourg in France can also be reached in about 20 minutes.
Public Transportation
Although there are excellent road links in Rheinau, the public transportation should be improved. The bus connection is terribly bad and the next train station is about 10 km away. But the trains in the next town Achern shuttle regularly between Karlsruhe and Offenburg/Achern/Konstanz every 30 minutes. And from there you can also use bus lines leading into the Black Forest, as the public transportation is much better developed there.
