About me

I am a teacher of English and Geography/Social Studies.

After two years of leave of absence in 1990/91 (travels in Europe and North America) I went back to my job for 5 years.

1997/98 I took two more years of leave of absence and spent them travelling in North and South America, Asia and Oceania.

2000 to 2008 I lived in Turkey, teaching at the Austrian St.George-College in Istanbul.

Now I am retired and back in Austria – when I'm not travelling!

I always spend the summer (May - Sept.) at my second home in Seattle, Washington State, USA.

Reaching out to people, intellectually, spiritually, and physically, is what I enjoy most in life.

My special interests are languages and literature, cinema, psychology, music (all kinds), sports (skiing, ice-skating, inline skating, mountain walking, windsurfing, snorkeling).

My greatest passion is dancing (American contradancing, waltz and other ballroom dances, swing/lindy hop, blues - and everything else you can do to music, with or without a partner).

I have been both a Servas ( http://servas.org/ ) host and traveller for more than 30 years, and I think it is among the best things I have come across in my life - I hope BeWelcome will offer similar experiences.

My apartment is small - guests do not have a separate room, but a (very comfortable) bed in the living area.
Because of the small space I expect my guests to try not to leave their things all over the place.
