Hi to all!

Just arrived in my new home! :)

1. I was looking for a decent pre-paid card (because AFAIK contracts are for two years here) and I stumbled upon the `o.tel.o' from Vodafone: it is 9 cents for every line in Germany and for sms. Anyone has info about it? I.e. how much does it cost to call/text abroad? The guy at the store did not know, and the info is only in German.

2. I need to buy a usb stick for connecting my laptop, but I can't find a flat-rate one: does anyone knows about one?

3. I am using linux, so I need a usb stick working with linux (duh!). I can of course install whatever hack makes that work ;-)

Not sure why I can't get to the banking thread but I easy to open an accoutrements with no ameldung.

Just take your passport and say your traveling g and you want to deposit travel funds.

If a bank refuses go to another one, go to big branches so they will have a person that speaks English

Spärkasse at Alexanderplatz opened mine for me in about 10 minutes.

I got a prepaid internet stick from O2. You can choose between no contract or a 6-month or longer contract, and then the price varies. btw 20-25 €/month. It's ok, but speed fluctuates and in some locations the reception is poor. I don't know if you would have compatibility issues with linux. You're welcome to come try mine out if you want. I am not really using it, but I think I have at least another month on the contract.

for prepaid phone, I got fonic, it's 9¢/min german phones or text, and 19¢ for a foreign text, i think it's expensive for foreign calls, like 49¢/min, except to US landlines. I bought the cheapest phone, which was online, 9€, fonic.de. maybe you can find something with a particular plan for calling Italy, though.

Thank you very much to everyone of you!

I bought both a USB-stick and a SIM-card, unfortunately neither one is still activated, but I am full of hope for the future (because I have nothing else left! ha ha h h ah! LOL!)

I hope to meet some of you at the Soupanova in P'berg tonight (in a separate thread).

OK, I have now a Blau.de working sim-card, very happy for that! :-)

Do any one know if the Tchibo surfstick is sim-locked? I would like to use it with my Blau card, but no luck so far. I know there are threads about unlocking surfsticks but unfortunately they are only in German :-/
