Things to do in and around Mumbai

There are quite a few places that you can see during your stay and I've listed down some of the main things that you can do in Mumbai.


Main Touristy Places

Gateway of India

Elephanta Caves -

You can take a ferry from the gateway and do the trip in 5-6 hrs (includes ferry ride time) -

Victoria Terminus - famous for its architecture, also a World Heritage Site wikipage

Evening at Marine Drive - watch sunset,spend some time here and at the chowpatty beach where you can try some street food (Try Pav Bhaji, Bhelpuri, Pani Puri, Vada Pav and other snacks). Its a MUST DO

Haji Ali Mosque - A Dargah in the sea connected by a narrow pathway, very crowded in the evenings (

Sanjay Gandhi National Park - See Image One of the biggest national parks within city limits, Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a nice place to spend your morning, jogging, cycling or just sitting and enjoying the fresh air. So close to the hustle-bustle, noise and pollution of the city, the national park gives you a refreshing feel and a calm atmosphere. The park opens for visitors at 7:30 in the morning and you have to pay an entrance fee of Rs. 30 per person. For people interested in cycling, bicycles are provided on rent for Rs 20 per hour (for min 2 hours), with Rs 200 Deposit and a valid photo-id. Colaba - Take a stroll here, most of the good pubs and restaurants and located in this area, Can go to Leopold Cafe and Cafe Mondegar.

Dharavi Slums - One of the largest slums in the world, used to be the biggest in mumbai. There are structured tours arranged by this company - Reality Tours and Travels

Vipassana Pagoda - People go there for the 14 day Vipassana course and recently they have also started a 1 hour meditation session.
