New try to put this message in the Languages group :
It is a free software for automatic translation. It has been statted in spain at the university of Alicant, but presently, there are a lot of people of europe (ans farther) developping langage pairs.
It is not necessary to be a computer specialist to contribute to this project. But it can help. The list of langage pairs witch had been started (just started for a lot of them) is here : http://wiki.apertium.org/wiki/List_of_language_pairs
To know more about apertium, there are wikipedia pages in different languages. The English one is there : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apertium but I gave more details in the French page (see original text for the link).
For released language pairs, it is possible to use a on-line translator : http://www.apertium.org/ or http://apertium.saluton.dk/?id=translatetext for esperanto language
