Media Event in Brussels

posted 2009/06/11 20:38    Visibility: World

We would like to organize a big Media Event to coincide with the 3rd annual General Assembly (GA) of Bevolunteer in Brussels.

Does anybody have some good suggestions? So far we thought about a "Freeze performance" or " Free Hug" session.

Looking forward to hearing from your creative little minds...

Why not draw up a press release, faxing it or emailing it to all the small, big newspapers, (local newspapers are the best for publishing press releases), TV stations in Belgium or creating a photo opportunity on the 10th of July,  maybe a procession of people carrying inflatble couches. A freeze isnt really photographic for a press photgrapher whose usually after a pretty girl to photograph. May be different people in national customes. Brussels is a multicultural city after all!!

A group of people with those colourful inflamable plastic couches walking around Brussels or sitting in front of landmarks - that would definitely be sweet!! Btw: pretty girls always help. Not only to attract the attention of press people but more to get the crowd stop, look and form a little circle around it ...

Ok, we came up with a big media event idea :

 A Flash Mob Dance!

Ideally, it should have the same impact as what happened recently in Antwerp : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq6b9bMBXpg

We don't want to recreate the same thing, but work in a similar spirit. We're contacting a real choreographer, and hope we can find as many participants as possible.

Concrete: we meet at 7pm sharp (!) inside the Halles St. Gery, (place St. Gery) in Brussels on Saturday July 11th. We practice the routine for 45 minutes, and go to another location. Since it is a flash mobbing, we cannot disclose the location yet. So join us at the Halles St. Gery, if you are interested. The event will be videotaped and members of all Hospitality Exchange Networks are of course more than welcome.

Now that's CUTE! I'll try to propagate as much as possible.

Thanks Julien,

Just tell everybody to meet up at 19h00 inside the Halles St. Gery because traditionally with a flash mob the location where we will perform, might change. Especially since the Grand'Place might be too crowded (there will be a concert)

Hey guys,

There's a FB event you can join for this: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=99025352689#/event.php?eid=99025352689

And a CS event: http://www.couchsurfing.org/meetings.html?mid=39544 (remember, it's a cross-network event)

Also, I have some ideas of how to make it a bit more original and accessible to non-dancers. Specifically I would like to encourage people with a good voice and/or free-hugs fanatics to join as well! We need ya...

Does anyone have a portable noise maker of any kind?

 Cheers, Thomas

It would be really great if somebody could write up a press relase so that we can contact some newspapers. French and Dutch would be great, but an English draft would also be fine to start with. You can post it here or send it to me or thorgal67.

If you have media contacts for Brussels / Belgium it would be great if you could help.

I did some propagation on Facebook and created a thread on the Brussels CS group and on the Belgium CS group as well. If I have enough patience, I'll go on HC as well...
