A group for the Polish city of Poznań.

A place for people to discuss the city, to ask for and receive help and information, to inform people about events of interest and to generally promote interactivity between BW members in and around Poznań.

Poznań is a city in Poland situated midway between Berlin and Warsaw with a population of over half a million and is among the oldest cities in Poland having been founded in the 8th centuary. Poznań was one of the most important centres in the early Polish state, whose first rulers were buried at Poznań's cathedral. Poznań is now Poland's fifth largest city. It is the historical capital of the Wielkopolska ("Greater Poland") region, and is currently the administrative capital of the province called Greater Poland Voivodeship.

It is the home of Lech Poznań football club, and the Stadion Miejski used by both them and Polonia Poznań was used as a Euro 2012 venue. Likewise Malta Lake close to the city centre has hosted world Rowing and Canoe Championships on numerous occasions. The "Stary Browar" (Old Brewery) Art and Business Center won a competition organized by National Geographic Traveler and was given the first price as one of the seven "New Polish Wonders". Lech is also home to the famous Lech beer, as well as many other smaller breweries and Wyborowa wódka. Poznań has been placed at high positions (very often first place in Poland) in many ratings as a city with a very high quality of life.

Poznań is twinned with Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Assen (Netherlands), Braşov (Romania), Brno (Czech Republic), Hannover (Germany), Jyväskylä (Finland), Ra'anana (Israel), Kharkiv (Ukraine), Nablus (Palestinian Authority), Nottinghamshire (England), Pozuelo de Alarcón (Spain), Rennes (France), Shenzhen (China), Toledo (United States), Győr (Hungary), Kutaisi (Georgia)

For Transport links Poznań has an international airport and train station (Website for train times and tickets is here), as well as both national and international bus links. For transport within the city the website is one of the best resources you could hope to have. For SmartPhone owners they also have a free App avaliable on the Google Play and Apple stores. Remember to buy a ticket in advance as you cannot buy a ticket on the tram/bus and the ticket inspecters are not only regular but also strict and undercover! Nobody wants a fine ruining a good day or trip!

So, enough here! Welcome to Poznań! :)

Please note, I have spelt it 'Poznan' in the group title rather than 'Poznań' to make the group easier to find for non-Poles.
