Which bank for Bewelcome? Give your opinion

At the moment, Bewelcome has an account at Crédit Coopératif
(http://www.credit-cooperatif.coop/).

Remember BeWelcome is only sustained by its members donations and needs a bit less
than 180€ per month

We chose a « non profit » bank instead of commercial bank for ethic reason.
But Crédit Coopératif is a bit expensive (Visa card needed for payment cost
=23€/Year, Online services 2,40€/month, Administrative fees 7.50€ per quarter)

So what do you think we should do :
1 Keep going with this « ethic » because this is close to BW spirit or,
2 Change for a cheaper commercial bank ? any ideas ?

what about a cheaper ethic bank?

In germany gls.de is popular. I don't know if the are cheaper at all but it would be a try to ask other ethic banks what the charge

How much money would we actually save when switching to a commercial bank?

I guess we all feel more comfortale with an ethic bank (?) and don't mind spending more money, the root problem is BW is not generating enough money to cover it's running costs (right?)

It would have to be a bank which is good at online banking but also has offices around Europe, at least. "Ethical banks" are definitely preferrable because they ll have an interest, many commercial banks might just not be interested in BV. The Kreisparkasse in Germany or las Cajas in Spain are obliged to offer accounts to everybody, so maybe that would be an option, too.

According to the information supplied by jilrev we are paying 81.8 € per Year in banking fees.

I would like to keep that the way it is. Comercial banking does invest in Arms, Nuclear power plants / research and other un-ethic investments. I don t know about "Crédit Coopératif" but the GLS Bank does invest only in social-ecological projects and is open for financing alternative projects all around Europe.

Would be very nice if a french speaking person could summarize the "alternativity" of "Crédit Coopératif". Is it just that they are not a profit oriented as other banks or is there another philosophy behind?

It would obviously be nice to go for an 'ethical' bank, but to me the primary 'ethical' work to be supported by BW is that of BW. If we have the money to pay for a more expensive but 'ethical' bank, then fine. If we're not doing too well financially, then go for a cheaper bank, regardless of what they invest in.
