will organize a Camp in our hometown of Traben-Trarbach (Rheinland-Pfalz). It
will take place from 20. – 23. July 2007. Traben-Trarbach is a little town at
the river Mosel, located at the centre of the triangle of Frankfurt am
Main-Köln-Luxemburg, 20 km away from Frankfurt-Hahn-Airport.
The camp will take place on a little mountain called Mont Royal named after a
nearby fortress built by Louis XIV of France. The location is called
"Flak-Stellung", which is the German phrase for the position of an anti-aircraft
gun. The 2nd World War gun has gone but what is still there are the remains of
the old bunker system, perfect for a great
bonfire. We will have enough wood there so you can have BBQ the whole days!
Also there is an wooden hut, a wagon with toilets (for native English speakers:
no Cowboys and no horses!!!) and running drinking water. For electricity and
music we will obtain an generator. The situation with showers is not sorted out
yet, but we hope to find a solution for that.
Accomodation can not be provided so people would have to bring there own tents
or sleep in the hut (which gives only shelter from rain but not from wind).
chrisiwoo and I are still working on the programme but things which might be
included are the following:
- city tour, evtl. guided night-tour with the ancient cityguard of
Traben-Trarbach
- tour through the famous steep wineyards of Mosel river
- wine tasting in chrisiwoo’s winery and wine-cellar-tour
- visiting the remains of the old French fortress Mont Royal
- Minigolf
- swimming
- Sports and Workshops (the area is great for mountainbiking if you can bring a
bike)
- nearby is a climbing park and an airfield where you have the possibility of
flying with planes, sailplanes (gliders) and motorgliders (you would have to pay
on your own)
More news, “How to get there?” and registration will
follow soon.

To get from Frankfurt Hahn to Traben-Trarbach you have a few possibilities:
1. Bus:
Take a bus to Bullay and than a train to Traben-Trarbach (see bus and train timetables). Be careful, there are only a few buses to Bullay!!!!!
2. Hitchhiking:
If you stand in front of the terminal and you have the terminal in your back, TURN RIGHT!
Try to get a lift to the entry on the B50. If you cannot mannage, walk. It is around one km!
At the B50 you have two possibilities: Standing at the service station or standing at the exit in direction TRIER.
Tell the people that you need to go to Traben-Trarbach. If they do not know it ask if they are going in the direction of Morbach, Hermeskeil, Bernkastel-Kues or Trier.
Follow the B50. After the exits Buechenbeuren and Wahlenau the B50 merges with the B327. A few hundred meters after this there comes a crossroad. Here you have to turn right and leave the B50 in the direction of Irmenach/ Traben-Trarbach. This crossing is a godd point for hitchhiking!
After turning right you have nothing else to do than follwing the road. It will lead you through the village of Irmenach straight into Traben-Trarbach.
3. Taxi:
If there are people who plan to come by taxi please contact me!!!
4. Call me!
Please tell me in advance if you might need a lift. I will try to arrange something!
Option 2: Get directly to Traben-Trarbach:

By CAR:
From Trier:
Drive along the A1 until the exit # 125 Wittlich-Mitte. => From Wittlich
From Liege:
Drive the A60 until exit # 11 Autobahnkreuz Wittlich. Leave the motorway here. => From Wittlich
From Koblenz:
Drive the A48 until exit # 1 Autobahndreieck Vulkaneifel. Change on the A1 and drive leave the motorway at exit # 125 Wittlich-Mitte. => From Wittlich
From Wittlich:
When you left the motorway turn right and soon after this again right in direction of Alf. Eventually there is also written B49 or Traben-Trarbach. Follow this road until a crossing where the road B49 to Alf turns left. Do not turn left, drive straight into the village of Uerzig. After a few hundred meters (still uphill) there is a crossroad. Turn here left into the direction of Traben-Trarbach. Follow this road. There will be a crossing where signs for Traben-Trarbach show in two directions. Drive staright uphill (Bergstrecke). After ca. 10 minutes you will come through a village called Mont Royal. Shortly after this you will see the signs of the camp.
From Mainz/ Frankfurt/ Ludwigshafen:
Drive the A61 until exit # 45. Change here on the B50 in direction Trier Frankfurt Hahn Airport. Leave Hahn airport Hahn on your left. The B50 merges with the B327 shortly behind Hahn. Drive on in direction Trier. The next crossing behind that is the exit to Traben-Trarbach. Follow the road and signs util you reach the town.
From Saarbruecken:
Follow the A1 until exit # 133 Hermeskel. Change here on the B327 and drive this road on in the direction of Frankfurt Hahn airport. After B327 merges with the B50 coming from Bernkastel-Kues you have to be careful. Soon there will come the exit to Irmenach/ Traben-Trarbach on your left hand side. Turn here left and follow the road until you have reached Traben-Trarbach.
For Hitchhikers:
First: Follow the advices given to car drivers and if you have reached Frankfurt Hahn follow the instructions above!!!
Aside from this, here are some tips:
HH fom the West through Frankfurt:
If you plan to get through the Frankfurt area, THIS IS VERY DIFFICULT. In this area there are hundreds of roads and only a few service stations. Most of the exit around mainz, Frankfurt etc. are not good for hitchhiking.
The station you would have to reach to get in direction of Frankfurt-Hahn is the Raststätte "Hunsrück" between the exits of Stromberg and Rheinboellen on the A61. But this can also cause some problems for you as it is the last exit before the B50 and so not many people going that way stop here.
From the A61 to the B50:
If you have the possibility to get droped at the exit Rheinboellen, ask for that as there is an Autohof.
From here just get to the exit to Frankfurt-Hahn and follow the instructions above.
HH from Wittlich:
After reaching Wittlich-Mitte you should turn right at the exit and walk to the nearby service station on your left and ask for lifts to Traben-Trarbach or into the Mosel valley as soon as you are in the Mosel valley, just follow the B53 in direction of Tr.-Tr.
HH from Belgium:
This is really a problem. No service station on the A60 in Germany at all. I will be curious about your hh stories…
HH from Saarbruecken along the B327.
As the B327 has only one line in each direction it is not so hard to stop a car. But be careful, this road can be dangerous to stand on it. Maybe it is better to go via Trier and Wittlich.
How to reach the campside???
The campside is on the Mont Royal, the mountain over Traben.
Traben is located on the left river side (north side, Eifel side).
Trarbach is located on the right river side (south side, Hunsrueck side, Frankfurt-hahn side).
In Trarbach:
To get to Traben you have to cross the Moselbridge.
After reaching the entrance of town from Frankfurt Hahn direction you will come to a little square with the red townhall in front of you. Turn here rightand drive through Trarbach until there is a little bridge in front of you. Turn here left until the next crossing. Here you have to turn two times right onto the B53. In front of you you can see the colourful Moselbridge. To get onto it turn at the next exit right and follow the signs in direction Traben.
On the other side, turn the first street right (am Bahnhof), leave the tourist information on your left and you will reach the train station.
In Traben:
Follow the signs to the train station!!!
For car drivers:
If you are standing in front of the train station take the street uphill (Obere Kaiserstarsse in direction Amt fuer Geoinformationswesen, Flugplatz, Wittlich, Koevenig, Mont-Royal and Casar-Druck. After a few hundred meters the street turns right into the Koeveniger Strasse. Follow the street further until a roundabout. Take the second exit at the roundabout into the Neue Strasse. Soon you will leave town.
Drive further uphill. On the left there will be a exit which leads to the Amt fuer Geoinformationswesen. Behind that on the right there is an exit which leaves into the forest. Here you should find signs.I will install signs in town which shall show the way to the camp side. If you are a pedestrian, try to
For pedestrians:
Three opportunities:
1.: Follow the street and try to hitchhike.
2.: Walk (ca. 3 km)
Walk up the Obere Kaiserstrasse. If you come to the first crossroad, stay straight and turn directly left into the street “Langfuhr”. Follow the street uphill to it’s end and turn left (Am Froeschenpuhl) and directly right again into the Roemerstrasse. Follow this road through thw wineyards until you are at the top of the hill and you see a sign Traben-Trarbach – mont Royal. Stay straight and follow the street “Ueber den Weinbergen” until you leave Traben-Trarbach again and reach the main road.
Turn lefy and directly right again into the forest.
There you are!!!
