Salut Pierreavelo,

thanks for joining us. But while reading your motivation to join I guess you missed the aim of our site. While you are looking for a (female) travel companion which is also one side part of our site we do not offer a dating service. I hope you find your travel companion but lot's of members are here because of the hospitality exchange. But maybe I missed something?

Anyway BeWelcome :)

Hi everybody,

my name is Carme and this will be my first experience with this kind of communities, and I'm sure it will be great.

I choosed BeWelcome because I saw is completely free, unlike other famous site, and because of many other differences. I don't mind paying for a service, but not in the way that is done there.

I've been exploring the web these days and I've found it very nice. I specially like the profile pages, I think they allow people to really introduce themselves. I've found also very useful to see when was last time someone logged in. But in fact, that brings me one question: are this people available? I mean, people that hasn't logged for a year or more has any kind of application that allows themselves to receive a notice in their usual mailboxes? Or this means these persons will never know I wrote them? An another thing that surprises and worries me is the great amount of people that have not filled their profile, should I supose they are not really participating in the community?

Well, questions finished, I am from Spain, born in the east but currently leaving in the north, a very beautiful country surrounded by the ocean (but a very very calm ocean, you should see it). I have not travelled for a while, but is a thing I always loved. Most of my beautiful memmories from youth come from travels I made with really wonderful people to really wonderful places and I hope I will find more of these moments in my most near future.

Nice week to everybody!!

Carme

Hi, glad to see some familiar faces here though I guess they're not glad to see mine. :)

Ilya from Saint-Petersburg (Russia). 1 year in HC, 2,5 years in CS - both hosting and traveling. Right now me and my wife are busy with our 8 m.o. daughter but looking forward to get back to the field ASAP. Still don't understand why do so many people make buzz against CS internal changes - they don't touch my regular CS-activity, imho. Thanks to Polyglot who reminded me about BW with his CS-profile, so here I am.

Let's see how productive 13K+ BW can be comparing to 2M+ CS. Life says that smaller communities are stronger and more sticked to the topic. I'd like to find a good quantity/quality balance here.

Welcome to SPb!

Hi

I'm Viviane and I live in Ghent, Belgium.

I have a lot of hosting/surfing experience, since I'm a member of CouchSurfing too.

But... since CS became a profit organization, I get more and more uncomfortable with the situation. Espacially because I also do volontury work there (what I really love to do) and now, feels like a profit organization is using my energy/time to make money.

I was so happy to discover that there is Bewelcome :  a hospitality website that is still non profit.  Hope this website will grow and stays non profit.  Maybe I can help this website too?

Hope to find new friends here too.

Greetings from Ghent!

A big and warm welcome to everyone new here!

Nico and Viviane, good to see some more people from Belgium here! You might want to join the Belgium group and help activating it a bit http://www.bewelcome.org/groups/294

Viviane, what kind of volunteering did you do over there? We can always use two helping hands so just contact me and we can find out what you would like to do here!

Carme, thanks for the nice feedback! As to the empty profiles, I guess there is a mix, some have probably signed up and forgot about this site completely. They would mostly not be available. Others have signed up but are more active on other hospex sites. They might not check out this site regularly but would react when being contacted via the message system. there is no harm in contacting them and trying to make them fill in their profiles (we'd appreciate this), but we also have to be realistic enough to accept that probably they are not interested...

Ilya and Jadric, so good to see young families (to be, Jadric ;) ) joining BW. What I really like(d) about CS is the well working family group there. We also have one here, but it's far less active, so maybe you can join and activate it a bit. http://www.bewelcome.org/groups/18 Ah, and we have space here in our house to host families too, plus our two daughters usually appreciate other kids being around a lot! So if you want to go west some time, consider visiting us!

Jadric, I saw in your profile that you like sewing, me too! There is also a small crafts group here http://www.bewelcome.org/groups/90 . Good luck in any case for all the smaller and bigger projects awaiting you!

Georg, I hope you found some nice accommodation and company in Vienna!

Cheers to all,

Claudia

Thanks for your welcoming note Claudia. I'll join two groups you mention. I'd love to find what it is like to travel and to host with a small baby. And also if you come to Croatia, you are welcome to visit us. I'd love to show my kid a taste of different cultures from his early days.

It's almost 6 years of Surfing/Hosting,connecting with incredible people from around the world which changing me everyday.

I think of some space/couch to welcome somebody whenever I move to a new city/place. Seems hosting and networking is a big part of our life but these days I feel I should try to maintain the relations I made over the years than making new ones but the family keeps on growing.

I hope it will be a lovely journey here as well with some spicy debates and fun!!

Welcome to my Crazy Chaotic Country where things still goes on...

Hello all,

I recently joined BeWelcome, and I thought I introduce myself. My name is Michel, 46 years old and living in Leidschendam, a place close to The Hague in the Netherlands. I am a quiet person, and maybe even a bit shy when I meet new people.

I have worked for 18 years at an education office, doing computer work, but unfortunateley I lost my job due to medical reasons, I have rheumatism. For this reason I am a bit limited with intensive activities, for example when I go on vacation.

Two years ago I had an account on CS, but I deleted that, I think CS is too much focussed for people younger then 40 years old, I mostly see events there in pub here pub there, and party here party there. I am more cultural minded, going to a museum, a castle or something like that. I hope to see it being different here.

That's all for now.

Greetings,

Michel

Hi everyone,

I'm XavNancy because Xav living in Nancy, France (Eastern part of France).

I've discovered hospitality with Hospitality club and I join CouchSurfing in 2007. I was a city ambassador for Nancy city ... and I dismissed because of the "new no-profit way" of CouchSurfing.

I lived a lot of wonderful meets with CS : 5 naked woofing weeks in Hawaii, living in the middle of forest, meet people in France, Greece, etc. and hosted people from Finland, New York, Holywood, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, etc. CS permited me, for example, to find people who helped me to realize a dream for my 40th birthday : naked swimming with dolphins, last year, in Acores Island.

I think that new development of hospitality with Internet is one of the best side of globalization : permit people to meet another way of living and discover that we are all human, all Earth inhabitant.

I have a clothing optional way of life, as a deep way to reconnect with nature, with my human nature. I enjoy and practice the saxophone, chamanism (sweatlodge, etc.), naked hiking, etc.

I've just created a new BW Clothing optional group http://www.bewelcome.org/groups/508.

It's not about naturism or nudism : it's about diversity. Just be yourself because dressed or not, you are a human being.

Have an excellent and wonderful end of year,

Xav

We are Charles and Siugi, right now travelling the world from Cambrai, France to Cambrai, South Australia, on bicycles. We've been on the road for one year and should reach our destination (very close to Adelaide) end of August. We are now close to Bangkok.

Our website : http://cambrai-cambrai.net

We've been active members of other hospitality networks, both as hosts and guests. These networks have been really useful for us on our way to Australia, so we can't wait to host people again when we're back.

Hopefully see you all on the road,

Hi All,

I joined this community almost at the same time I joined CS about 4 years back. I want BW to run better than CS, and all we BW members can make it happen.

For instance by creating more groups and starting posts from your side, like I do, and start writing each other for couches, and meetings, interactions online, group posts, and traveling together etc.

I'm always ready to host any of you in India. As of now, I'm in Delhi, so can host you in Delhi, but I move to different cities of India too quite often for months at a stretch, so at such times I can host you in those cities wherever I'm at that point in time. Like I did, when I was a part of CS.

Regards,

AJ.

Hello, let's stick this thread to everyones homepage. ;) My name is Florian and I am currently living and working in Dresden, Germany. I started with CouchSurfing about one year ago on a trip through Asia. But because I believe, that projects like CS or BW should not be influenced by any financial interests, I switched over here a few days/weeks ago. While reading all the distant places you come from, I am really getting itchy feet. I mean, Dresden is a nice city and I want to invite everyone who is travelling through Germany to spend a few days in Dresden. But still there is a big, big wanderlust inside me and I am sure, that one day, I will be on the road again. ;) So thank you very much everyone here, and let us start and protect a really wonderful project. See you! Florian

Hi, my name is Christian. I'm a disgruntled CS member who is looking for an alternative (and has tried HC before). I am not only disgruntled because of the for-profit change but also because the web site (and company behind it are developing for the worse. I'm hoping that BW is more community driven and will grow into a vibrant community. I like the free software concept for the platform (even though I don't understand the Drupal choice) and hope that BW will develop fast with it. Well, I have been active on CS for years and when I got more and more fed up with it, I thought about writing my own fork. Looks like BW might save me that effort but we'll see. :) As the above might give away already, I'm a computer and web nerd but I also enjoy a lot of other things.

Hello, I'm Sapi and I just signed up for beWelcome.

I'm living in Amsterdam since some years and I'm currently working on developing a participatory video project between people in Amsterdam and Manila. I live in a legalized squat and like hanging out at alternative spots in town.

I'm mostly hosting at the moment and I prefer to host people that are interested in similar things as me, which is one of the reasons I'm looking into migrating from CS to beWelcome: I'm hoping to find more likeminded people here, because I'm fed up with copy paste messages of people that obviously didn't read my profile...

So I'll be exploring this space and find out more about the comminity and all you members :)

Hi Everyone! I'm yet another disgruntled CSer looking for an option. Since they now have private funding, I'm pretty sure they will soon be selling our personal information and habits. So here I am. I'm in Fort Lauderdale.

I've converted one of my bedrooms into a room for rent which is available for longer stays and for someone who wants a little bit more comfort than a couch surfer. (That link is here: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/379226) AND I'm also open to free/exchange hosting for 1-3 nights on short notice if it's convenient for me. (It's not the same bedroom.)

Meanwhile, the CSers in our area do have a lot of events and get-togethers. We have to make that happen for BW if it's going to grow and be sticky.

I am Maan W. from New Delhi, India. I have just joined this site and I'am not getting on how to actually use it to host people coming to my town or find any potential hosts for myself.

I'am very new to this "hosting & 'guesting' thing" and I'am loving it a lot. I just hosted two people, a guy named Matt from East london & a girl named Jett from Chicago, US adn it was really an awesome experience hanging around with them. I have been with a Japanese traveler Nahoko who was in Delhi a few days ago adn it was really fun showing her around different places and monuments. I hope "Bewelcome" helps me in meeting and making new friends from different ethnicities and nations. I guess that's what's the idea behind it. By the way, I never though hosting could be this much fun! ;)

What a lot of people!

Hi everyone!  I am also another refugee from CS - I loved the idealism so was really disappointed by the values in practice.

I am in London, often travelling in Europe but would love to explore other parts of the world - where I used to travel as a student - with fellow independent travellers.

And of course if you are passing thru London, please say hi.

Bye for now

I like to explore nature around Jogja, likes to ride motorcycles in roam. I've got a very powerful principle and I always need someone else in my life so I like to know and build friendships, help each other and sharing also respect will be more important than anything. because I'm an ordinary person and there are still many weaknesses, I really love learning so that any weaknesses can be overcome. I'm a thinker, I really want to know what makes me interesting and I really enjoy the learning expression, character, mind and human nature is actually present in the heart. Hello everybody!

Guido, from Italy.

On BeWelcome since I think 4 years ago, but never actually active. I've been active on CS (http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/guidoz/) for years, but I'm now worried about where CS is going.. so I'm thinking about the "big switch", or at least to finally start using Bewelcome, and, why not, help in its developement.

Hey guido

Welcome to Bewelcome.

As you can see, many members and also volunteers of CS made the switch to Bewelcome.

Only problem is that the website is not very good organised yet.  For example , I see your message in my mailbox, but when I open the thread: I cannot find your post!...

A lot  of work for wesite builders, I guess.  Maybe you can volunteer on the bug team here too?

Welcome from a colleague 'community builder'' .

Some how I crashed a lot of couches. And I offered people a place to lay their head down. Since internet these occasions increased, last years with help of the amazing CouchSurf-community.

After reading how founders of CouchSurfing started to use donations for managing the community according their point of view, I am more attracted to Bewelcome.

So here I am. And if you are in Lille: do not hesitiate to contact me.

I moved to Lille december 2011. And think that I will be more and more staying in Lille. Would be nice if I can host more. Since I have been surfing a lot, while being traveling through Flanders, Holland and a bit further. I rather stay in Lille. Or camp with Patricia near the sea. I have the desire to visit Algeria, as it is the homeland of some friends. And because I like to eat falafel, even more the salads of the la Méditerranée.

Hi people,

we are Nora and Sophia, two girls from Germany. We finish school next year and want to go a year abroad.. basically travelling around spontaneously, wherever it will take us:)

At the moment, we still live with our parents, which his why it could be hard to host someone right now. But as soon as we will be living apart from our parents, we will be happy to host travellers, even though we do not know yet, where we will be living by then.

We think this community is very helpful and hope to meet new people and just gain loooots of new experiences;)

Hope to meet some of you soon (our travel will start in about august 2013)! :)

Hello World!

I’m James (family name: Bryan Ortega) and after having lived in my native Panama, the USA, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy and the UK (and after having been a flight attendant), I still can’t get enough of travelling and now I want to cycle around the world.  It is something that I have somehow managed to postpone for a long time, but now, this is it.  No more excuses.  I’m starting on 20 July 2012.

This is the best thing ever!

It's about exposure. Bringing the people together and learning about eachother's culture. The fact that one can host a stranger in their own home, and on top of that, not ask for any money in return shows that we, humans could be ...GREAT!
Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel for mankind. I think that BeWelcome is revolutionary and visionary.

For the people who created this,

THANK YOU!

Hi to everybody,

I'm Michele fro Roma, and I'm another ex Cs..but my reason to be a refugee are a bit different ..not offended by cs becoming b corp...but hei people on cs are changing. after hosting many times things are becoming worse everytime i find a lot more people who don't want to share anything about cultures or even simple chatting, but just thinking about finding a roof on their head the host is an optional. Maybe it's only me that i'm thinking about this but i remember that in the beginnign of my experience there there were more genuine and really cool people there. hope bw would be the same of cs in the beginning.

happy travels

It helps those people lacking the money to broaden and open there mind to travel. There is no excuse now so lets get surfing! YAY! x

I don't really have much saved and my student loan people are constantly on my back to give them money :(  which i don't have.

so i need some help with tips for cheap travel, accomodation and any good travel advice????

Hope to get more engaged in the BeVolunteer project too. I'll write the remainder of my story in the profile.  See you around, for example in Lorraine (NE France, where I'm living), and... BenVenuti :D

Hi my name is Adam, I'm a newbie here and just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I really don't know what more to say here that I haven't already said in my profile however, the most important thing is that I love travel and have traveled widely! I prefer to be with "real people", see the "real country" and learn about "real cultures" rather than staying in stuffy and stark hotels, hostels and the like in the bigger towns and cities and doing the dreary brochure type tourist activities and visiting the boring, yucky, crowded tourist attractions!!! Being out there in the real country with local people and experiencing their food and culture I believe provides for a much fuller travel and life experiences. Also, I'm a very fit and healthy, fish eating vegan and although European born, because I live in Australia, when I travel I prefer extended trips. I'm looking forward to being part of this community.

I am interested in getting to know and learn from new cultures and sharing my home and my place with people i dont know is a way of leaving my confort zones to discover the other person reality.

I will be living in Netherlans from next year and I am already talking with my boyfriend how great it would be to host interesting new people there....

Hi there =)

It's Sandro from Switzerland. I did an apprenticeship with maturity and am now staying in the army which is compulsory in our country. Afterwards I wanna get the Bachelor of International Management after I've done a language stay in Australia.

In my free time I love travelling. Further I like going to the cinema, playing beach volleyball or just to be around a camp fire and talk with my friends =). But the interest which takes probably the most time is snail mailing to friends from different countries. There are many more interests but I should write a letter here I think =P

Soo.. from the end of October until the end of November I am going to be free. There I wanna travel anywhere for a few days or even longer if everything suits. I joined "beWelcome" because my friends are studying or working and have currently no holidays or money left. I don't really mind which country to visit, just wanna meet new people around my age and having a great time.

That was my introduction. I wish you guys a wonderful rest of the weekend and enjoy !

Hi there :)

This is Koray from İstanbul. I have been one of the most active members in couchsurfing but my profile have been deleted with an unfair way even they didn't tell me the reason because of "terms of use" I learned it after a while wia a friend who has a friend in heartquakes of CS. It was totaly unfair. People can remember my nickname: Koray the Türk .)

I was organizing 3 (sometimes more) activities in a week. Language meetings, city walkings, cultural activities and of course parties .)

So I got used to spend time with foreigners and share / participate everything.

Just be easygoing, vibrant and bring alchoolic drinks as much as you can (because drinks are too expensive in Turkey because of the taxes) then I could help you to discover İstanbul. Touristic, non-touristic, historical and night life .)

See you all somewhere soon .)

I heard about this site quite a while by people from couchsurfing, but decided to create an acount today because I'm a little disappointed of what CS became... i've been a CS since 2009. (For those who are or were in couchsurfing I have the same nickname)

I like this accomodation concept (specially because it's a non profit group) and hope that soon it will grow and we'll get the possibility of organising meetings too :)

I have enjoyed the couchsurfing-experiences very much and with some people I knew there I am still in contact.

hello,

we are couchsurfing refugees as well, keeping a mostly emptied profile over there, after the recent changes, hoping  "be welcome" will developpe in a good way and be a family friendly organisation.   We changed our profile name , but  CS profile is linked in our brandnew BW-profile. We are 6 at home, we love to travel and  to host, even if it is sometimes complicated with our every day routine, we just started to migrate our  profile, more info about us over there soon!

PS:  there is one thing which makes me feel uneasy as soon as I realized during my first visit browsing profiles to inspire mine:  that  feature that shows profile visitors concretely , cannot really say why, may be  something to do with stalking, but it keeps me from browsing  other profiles! I've seen that there is a discussion about it, hope they will find a  convenient solution for everybody!

Hi everyone,

and here is another 'refuge' feeling the need to escape from the commercializing efforts at CS after 4 years of very active volunteering. I migrated my profile to beWelcome from Couchsurfing, where I have been very active as Family Ambassador for Norway and European Moderator for the Family Welcome Group. For more information and references feel free to view my profile on Couchsurfing until I feel it needs to be deleted. http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/winfriend I will continue to host and surf through CS as well for the time being.

Our home situation, 50 km south of Oslo, in the country is very well suited for families.

I am Heidi, living in Ulm, Baden-Wuerttemberg - southern Germany.

Born and raised Bavarian (don`t like Oktoberfest though!)

My home is open for people who like to share their view of life, respecting other views.

I dont like "to hang out" but I like to show you around, have tea or wine with you, share my home.

No chance to "crash on my couch" but climb the stairs of the highest steeple in the world! - a bit more stressing out and challenging than just crashing!!

I am also on helpx.com and still keep my rudimentary profile on couchsurfing; it really hit me hard that they made all these changes in 2011 and now 2012 ....

Now I am here! Looking forward to the first couchrequest I`ll get here!!

Best wishes

Heidi

Hello everyone,

I am  new to BeWelcome, but I really liked the concept , though didn't host or visit anyone the BeWelcome way, but I have been hosting people i have met during my travel to other countries.

I am taking the step to introduce myself, because I would enjoy hosting and meeting new people. I am really looking forward to host people at my place in Lucknow, India.

When you visit me, I am open to spend time with you. I can show you around the historical sites and nature parks. So looking forward to some interesting associations.

Best wishes

Hello all,

my name is Sebastien. Half french, and half canadian since a few years now. I'm one of those CS disapointed people. I joined BW when CS become for profit, but was kind of inactive here. Decide to become active here with the new ToU.

I'll try to do my best to participate in BW. Will try to get involve and give time to BW... as I do believe in the project. Was first thinking of waiting to see what BW was going to be, before I finally decide (thanks to a couple of interesting talk) that if I want BW to become something, the best way would be to be part of it, instead of waiting.

Hello people,

I joined Bewelcome just to see what options are out there within this emerging culture and I hope to be a part of it for a long time.

I am getting ready to embark on a trip that i hope will mold me into someone new, I want to see the world by volunteering, Bewelcoming and be involved in this way of life.

I have yet to be hosted or be a host, I would love to meet like minded people along the way.

I have moved home from interstate to save a little cash and then travel from S.E Asia around into Erope for as long as I can

Enjoy your free trip around the sun.

After very careful maneuvering and being ever so patient with the butter knife I had in my hand I finally managed to get the evil COUCHSURFING sticker off the side of my house. I used the bumper sticker size Logo next to the front door to help visitors find my house. Never thinking I would want or need to remove it. Symbolic as it may seem it is gone. and so is my relationship with the "children" that run THAT organization. It's playtime over there right now and everyone else suffers. A b unch od twenty-somethings with a lot of money and an elitist mantra absolute. I recipe for disaster. I have deleted my account.

I am ready to help here in any way I can. Even though I live in a very obscure region of New hampshire that ir rarely visited I certainly can keep close via Internet. I do not expect many visitors here. Boston is 75 miles south of here.

I was fortunate enough to travel full time fo six years.  I want to give back.

Time and inclination. Seasoned advice and computer skills. This is what i can offer this community. A fresh start and an eager mind. What can I do to help?

For starters we can convert a domain/website I had intended to use (over there) for use in promoting Be Welcome.

http://www.couchthoughts.com  It is intended as a photo journalistic celebration of couch hopping.

the PHP database is WORDPRESS at the moment, but could be used for anything.

I am hoping for a stronger North American involvement. More media attention. and storming twitter, facebook and google+ with information and a strong message of good intentions.

messages and suggestions very much welcome. ...and this is just my first day!

Welcome to BeWelcome!!!!!!

How are you doing?

It is good that you deleted CS and joined here. I was also there for some years.

You can host when you are able to, before that you can certainly meet, show around, travel etc with other beWelcomers. Read posts, reply to them, post from your end first and ask for any advice or give advice. You can also join as a Volunteer, am glad to see that you even posted to become a Translator, that's the right way to get involved and be active with BeWelcome

Hi, I am totally new with this host stuff. Just read about it on the newspaper in our country last sunday. I visited CS first as it was what mentioned earlier on the newspaper, but got a little bit confused with the web appearance and then I visit BW and find it more easy to understand for newbie like me.

I live in Bogor west java Indonesia, close to our President's Private Residential. I can show you the house anytime if you visit me hohohoo... not showing the house, because they have army guard in front of the housing complex. But if you are lucky enough you may see him in his car leaving or arriving the house from his work at the state palace.

I love reading people's stories of their trips abroad.. got jealous soooo many times with their experiences.. I travel more on the net than in real life hiks... :( I envy you all for your chance of travelling to so many places but this is all I can do.. at least until now.. travelling by reading your stories and watch your travel pictures..

I may step up with hosting you guys at my place soon before I can make my own trip to  anywhere out of my country. I am willing to learn from you all.

Hi nukenuke,

Welcome to beWelcome!!

It was so nice to read your post here, you made me smile :)

Don't envy anyone, just be happy by reading others travel stories for their happiness and good fortune, interact with them, host them, travel with them, make friends, and you will be just fine and will be as happy as other travelers :)

Be happy, always, and prepare yourself to go for a great ride with other travelers here :) Soon, you will join others and will never be envy of anyone :)

Best of Luck!!

nukenuke, I can relate to your feelings. While I might get to travel more than you, I still see plenty of people around me who get to travel a lot more and who I envy for that.

But then again, I envy you for having a 3yo daughter at home as well. I think I'd trade having kids for a significant number of trips. You see, there is reason why people might envy you as well... :-)

Hey everyone!

I'm Ronald, a civil engineer from Rotterdam, Netherlands, 30yo.

I've been a member of CS for about 3,5 years. Hosted dozens and dozens of people (60+ references, 40+ friends), been active as an organiser of meetings including our annual CSinterklaas party which hosted about 250 surfers here in Rotterdam. So I'm quite familiair with the hospitality concept.

More and more getting fed up with the recent changes in CS (they took our jo... ehm groups!!!), lack of communication from the top (besides the 'thank you for your feedback, it's very helpful' and then ignore it), horrible generic new logo (google+ anyone?) and the fact they move away from hospitality towards just another social network site...

That's why I decided to take a look here. Some of my CS friends have been around for a while already, some moved recently. So, I'm curious about BW, hope I like it!

Hello everybody, here is Roberto from Milano.

Like thousands of other BW-ERS, I have a long experience with Couchsurfing, and I ran away from there after all the mess they made, and I am trying to restart a new life here.

I love hosting people, I love travelling, I have been in a lot of places and I have met a lot of people. I will not say that I am "open minded" because I started to hate that label after reading some hundreds of CS profiles :-)

This Saturday we have a "Xmas party" in Milano, it was originally planned for couchsurfing, but most probably we will use it to make some advertising on BW. All the most experienced members of the Milano group are already here, I hope some others will follow.

Hello EVERYBODY !!!

Claudia...thank you very much  for this thread !

I'm João Martins from Portugal and many of you know me from CS as W123  where I only met wonderful people. I joined BW in 2007, but haven't been active here since then.

We are a family of 3 ... Me, Andreia and Little John !

We love  to travel even if we didn't had the possibility to do it a lot!

One of my big goals is to travel around the world by car and get an impression how beautiful and unique each place on Earth is, because we only live once and I realized that there other things to appreciate on this planet than my little piece of Portugal.

If I can be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate and contact me. I helped a lot in CS as a volunteer, I will be happy to be here too :)

If you are my friend on CS, please add me here too !!!

Looking forward to many great BeWelcome experiences :)

Hi all,

I'm Sven and I have been a very active CS member since 2006 in terms of hosting, surfing an local organizer. I've created my BW profile already a while ago, but I've started using it actively only since a few weeks - after the notorious changes at the CS website. Moderating the groups has become impossible and the website is totally unclear for newcomers, resulting in a huge load of hosting request spam in the groups.

This change destroys real discussions and will destroy the local community as well. Therefore I've decided to move to BW and to try to convince as many as possible to join us. The hospex community is stronger than just some website as long as we make an effect to keep it alive.

With BW, I start thinking about traveling again. Next year I won't make very exotic trips. I'm thinking about e.g. Zuid-Holland and Wales or Portugal.

Hi everyone:

Dede and I have just joined BeWelcome.  it seems that a "Great Migration" from CS to BW is underway.

For BW members who are also active on the CS site, our membername/profile is the same on both sites -->  NORTHATLANTA

https://www.couchsurfing.org/people/northatlanta/

we will be completing our BW profile in the coming days, but wished to briefly introduce ourselves and say

"Joyeux Noël"    I like the fact that this site is based in France.  I hope to improve/freshen my skills at reading French by reading some of the posts written here in French.

by the way, Dede and I love the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur area of France, especially the Luberon region (we stayed in the village of Saint-Martin-de-Castillon for two weeks in June 2012).

should anyone ever visit Georgia and the Atlanta area, we would love to have you visit our home!    -Dede and wayne

Hi guys!

Not really new to BW, I even hosted through it already, but I didn't know this thread existed...

So here I am!

Vincent, 32, from Paris, now listening to "fip" radio on a good vintage stereo - kind of a new hobby!

^^

If you come to Paris, you'll BeWelcome!

See you,

Hello guys :)

My name is Emeline but you can call me Emy! I am French and I currently live in Bordeaux (beautiful city, South West of France). Unfortunately I cannot host you yet but I will be able to do it in September and that will be a pleasure for me!

I spent the las six months in Minnesota, United States, assisting teachers in a primary school. That was a wonderful experience. This year is my gap year and I'd like to enjoy it as much as possible. Now that I am back, I'd like to visit Europe. Don't think it is possible to visit all the thirty countries in a month with interrail but just some of them would be cool. I am sure I will visit Sweeden, Germany and Italy, we will decide together what other countries we could visit. I am looking for one travel partner (or more :D), who wants to join me ? Available between May and June :) Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Everyone,

After being since 2007 in Cs i heard about this new webpage for some people from this last organisation.Anyway got little fed up lately of the numerous changings that make you to get lost plus lately Cs is becoming like a dating website for India/Arabic countries so i hope on this website they consider the idea of ban people when this happens from the first time to stop watching dating sentences all the time in forums or post and avoiding people to ask for a couch to SAVE MONEY and not to meet new people for a nice understanding of cultures.

Now i introuduce myself. This Is Xosé,Im 31 as you can see in my profile and ive been into hosting/surfing places to meet people since 2007.I worked seasonal in summer time mostly as entertainer in summer resorts and anytime i try to find time to get to know new people around.I live in Galicia in West side Spain close to the borderline with Portugal. So anybody coming around dont hesitate to contact for a beer or showing around. My city is in the middle of the portuguese way to Santiago¡¡¡¡

Cheers

Hi! We (me and Marek) started profiles on HC, CS and BW 3 years ago. Back then, HC was already dead and BW was not yet developed, so all the hosting/visiting experience we've got came from CS. Presently, CS is going down, so we would like to focus on BW, where all the real hospitality geeks as us will probably soon move. Nice to be here! :)

"Hospitality geeks" - well, I suppose that's me. More a hoster than a hostee. Also coming from CS because of changes, though I was hosting before that through Travelhoo.

I have hopes of BW but cannot yet properly jump ship as there are difficulties with the BW site (e.g. with the search engine). I live in the countryside south of Edinburgh. It was difficult enough for CS surfers to locate me and I often had to trawl the lists of surfers looking for Edinburgh hosts. It looks pretty unlikely that users of BW will find me, the way searches are organised at the moment.

However, I can hope. BW seems welcoming and willing and where there's a will...

Hi Bewelcomers,

I am Sharyn, and I am a new member here.  I've been a member of CS and have hosted many times.  I'll be using CS and other hospitality orgs, like BW, for the first time, looking for hospitality, to make my trip around the EU more interesting, and yes, more affordable too, this May-Aug, 2013.

I've loved the time I've had with all my guests from CS.  They have such interesting lives and stories!  Maybe my stories and life will seem equally interesting to other people.  I am older than all my guests so far!  So if you come stay with me, the 'night life' ends very early for me, Ha!  I will happily show you around the town, which is all walking distance from my house, and I offer my guests a private room with a comfortable bed, and coffee or tea in the morning.  When I am in a cooking mood, I will cook.  Otherwise, we can walk to a nearby restaurant, or we can cook together in my kitchen?

I'm from the US, and I'm retired from work, and live in a beautiful little UNESCO Heritage city called San Miguel de Allende.  I like to work on creative projects, enjoy my guests, I try to improve my Spanish, and I love to travel.

I have a daughter who is a film editor in Hollywood, and a son who is a geologist living with his wonderful wife and 2 children, in New Mexico.  What more do you want to know?  Just ask :~)

Hello all of you,

I have a dream and therefore I am here. I have got to know BW by a CS on Couchsurfing com, Her name there is mutabor. Thank you for the line! I just have promised to host some people via Couchsurfing.com. When they have been at my place I will delete that profile and only use BW.

Now a little about my dream. I really love to know different cultures and people. I was born and raised in Germany and was emigrating to Sweden in the age of 28. In the 1970th there were no couchsurfing so I was not travelling because I had no friends to travel with - they were all married ... In Sweden i have got family and my kids are still living there. In 2007 i was moving to Ireland for work - I was exploring the land while I was there and did a lot of hillwallking. In 2009 I came to Hamburg, Germany - it is a long story to tell, why. I will not do it here.

I really do like Hamburg, but I am longing for travelling the world! I am short on money (without job since half a year ago and waiting for retiring). I like to host people, but I only have a room to share. I hope that will not matter for you. There is a German way to discribe my situation: "Raum ist in der kleinsten Hütte" it means: there is a place also in the smallest place.

Because I am very good in Swedish next German i can volunteer and translate into Swedish - if the community needs it.

Back to my dream. When I am retired I will travel to Canada, the USA, Mexiko ... but for now I would like to come to Switzerland this autumn. Maybe a can get hosts there then. Btw When I was going from Ireland to Germany I made a trip trough France, Belgium and the Netherlands. It was all very nice but Brussels - because I did not find my hostel and did not find any nice place there. I think with knowing BW's it would have been very different. Maybe some time I am trying one more time.

In the meantime all BW's welcome to my place - I am also great in showing you the city of Hamburg - there are a lot of nice places!

See you

Dorothee
