Wow! What is happening to London?!!
I’ve lived in London for 32 years, but I’ve never known anything like this! I mean London is just normally a kinda crazy place, one way or the other. 8 million people all trying to get on in one place. Now add the biggest global sporting even in the world! Man this is something different. The sun is out, the rain has stopped, there are soo many flags out, so many police, so many helicopters, police, army, on the day of the opening it was like a cross between a royal taxi service over my house and a patrols in Afghanistan.
I went for a walk today and a field has been taken over as a camp site by hundreds of Dutch people, which explains the bicycle snake of evidently lost tourists going down my street last night, like they were on a cycle holiday in the lake district. Funny sight to see in East London. They obviously hadn’t heard the story of the bbc team that got mugged in their temporary studio on the upper floors of an East London tower block, that is reminiscent of the much lower budget pirate radio stations, that are normally there.
There is an atmosphere that is charged and it’s very strong. That might in part explain the added passion I have been feeling of late. London is always happier when the sun eventually comes out. We can be, very dry and cold at times, but when we’re moved, you see that we are in fact a very passionate and emotional bunch. The Olympics is moving London and it’s wonderful.
I’ll try and capture some of what I come across in photos. I’ll upload any good ones.
