Hey there,

our BeWelcome project is growing fast and developing in a very good way, I think, but of course it still needs some improvement. Programmers work a lot on it 'behind the scenes' and some  new features, layout etc will be available soon.

Nevertheless we also need help in other areas, so if you are not a programmer, you would still be of great help in the following areas:

 - member support: answering emails that members send to us.Most of the task is quite straight forward. English is fine, but in the long run we would also like to offer support in other languages. You should just be able to understand English well enough to read some templates we use.

legal advise: if you have any expertise in this you could be of great help to us: A dynamic organization needs to modify statutes every once in a while, but of course this should always be checked and cross checked. Our Legal Team would be happy to tell you more.

- Media, PR, texts: If you have contacts or are interested in building contacts with newspapers, radio stations, online magazines etc. you could help us compile a good database of contacts. Of course writing articles (also in other languages), and providing us with other material we can use for sample articles would also be great.

If you stumble across some texts (anything from the very short 'texts' on buttons to longer texts in the AboutUs Page) on the site that do not sound so well, maybe you could help us creating better texts.

You see, there are so many different tasks that there's certainly something for you, too!

Cheers,

Claudia

Oh great to hear this, how can I help ;)

I think what is also needed is
* people with experience in opensource software projects, and how they are run and managed
* the same for non-profit orgs.
This does not mean we will make you "the boss"... but I think you can help a lot with advice!

Currently we need people to help with testing the website and the releases in alpha. Your task would mainly be to detect bugs and problems and report them via our trac system to the programming team (unless you are a programmer yourself and can solve things right on the spot :D)

To directly apply to the team check the forum

If you want to get more information first contact  Peter (fake51)

(co-ordinator of the testing team) or Philipp (philipp), team co-ordinator of software development.

If testing and programming is not your thing join us at PR, members support, translation, you name it....

Hello all,

After a couple of chats with Jean-Yves and Claudiaab about the current needs of BW in volunteers,

And after careful thinking on my side,

I've come to the conclusion that I can really try to do my bit for BW.

Now, as I have already told Jean-Yves and Claudia, I am not strictly speaking an IT specialist by trade. Good enough as a computer user, Yes I think I can call myself that, but I am in no way a programmer, designer, conceptor or anything technologically too far fetched for my brain cells.

However, I am sure that with a little bit of training and explanations from the top, and as long as I will know what is expected from me, (all clear in my mind), I can do something useful here for the BW community. After all, I like to think that however small a task is assigned to me, that would free some time for people more able than me.

Both Jean-Yves and Claudia seem to have arrived at the same conclusion that I could start getting accustomed to the awesome world of computing by some testing.

So feel free to consider my application and offer.  What is the next step from here ??

Regards

Manu

Hey Claudia,

I can't help for programming but if you still need help to answer messages, you've got mine.

Just tell me more about BW's "politic".

Pierre

@pierko : not sure what you mean with "politic" but if you are referring to the way volunteers are treated here in BW, I can tell you some of our goals :

- grassroot involvement

- democratic decissions

- uncensored discussions

- respect for others

More info can be found here : http://www.bevolunteer.org/wiki/Main_Page

If of course you mean something completely different with "politic", then please explain more in detail.

And also a very important question : Just tell me more about you :)

Thorgal67: Yes, that's what I wanted to know, and what ARE volunteers in BW, what do they do, in which limits. About goals and their applications, the best way for me to discover it is to be volunteer! :)

I am studying medical engineering, I discovered hospitalityclub last year while in exchange studies in Slovakia, and I still enjoy this way to perceve intercultural links. You may read my profile and comments there (same nickname).

I am interested in BW because I guess it has common goals with HC, and has the advantage of being young and dynamic, and having less internal conflicts... I'd like also to put a bit of my personnality in such organization which corresponds to my ideas; and in general, to learn more about associative organizations.

I don't really know what you want me to write about myself, so just tell me if I answered wrong. (and I don't know whether the forum is the best place for that...)

Just a little offtopic remark: Thorgal67 won t review your profile in Hospitality Club because they deleted his profile after 3+ years volunteering for this "organization"....

I won t read it now because I can t loggin there since hours...

I welcome you to discover our volunteer structures. We are still (and hopefully ever) in progress and in the search of the optimal way of organizing and coordinating our work.

I can t tell you a lot about answering messages about BeWelcome (Support) As far as I know they manage the E-Mails through Mailman but feel free to proove me wrong ...

@Pierko : that was exactly what i needed to hear. Great to count you among our members

@Fabzgy : Messages to BeWelcome (requests, complaints, bug reports, general questions, etc...) all go to something called OTRS (a kind of ticketing system).

Claudiaab is coordinating that team, so if anybody wants to help out they should contact claudia (preferably through the BV forum here : http://www.bevolunteer.org/forum/index.php?board=48.0

Mailman is something completely different. It is our discussion & mailing list that is used to send out massmailings to all the volunteers. It is not used so actively, as most communication is handled well on the forum. However it is occasionaly used to inform all volunteers about important stuff that they might otherwise overlook.

i hope this clarifies it a bit, feel free to ask any kind of question here or contact me personally.

If you wonder about all those tools and channels in use - just have a look at the volunteer pages (of course accessible to every member, not only volunteers). You find them linked from your personal start page in the left column "Actions > Volunteer pages" or direct link: http://www.bewelcome.org/volunteer/tools

I made a french translation of the beginning of this thread, with all the french speakers we have inside BW I think it can be useful
