BeWelcome meeting this summer?

I already hinted the idea in another thread (http://www.bewelcome.org/forums/s1226-quo_vadis__bewelcome_) but I think it deserves its own thread: Who would be interested to meet up this summer to socialise and be productive? Preferably somewhere near Berlin or Hamburg, so @matthias and me can prepare things a little bit. ;)

I am imagining a gathering/camp during a weekend that has a few open space elements, but also allows to have random fun like going to a nearby lake, river or forest. So yeah, it would be somewhere more rural rather than in the big smoke. The camp should be open to passing by travellers, locals and active BeWelcome volunteers alike.

Suggested sessions:

  • Current state of BeWelcome, good parts and bad parts
  • Future brainstorm
  • Software framework, possible migration to Drupal
  • Bug fixing / live coding hackaton sprint :]
  • Site feature and usability review
  • Party and bonfire!
  • ...
Maybe this could be combined with a general assembly?

So far @matthias and me would be up for this. Who else would come? As for dates, some time in the beginning of August would work for @matthias and me.

We should add the final date as invitation to the newsletter.

Do you think it would be feasable to be productive from abroad too, since I won't be able to attend.

make that "but" a "because". that's completely unintended, but perfect. let's find a location for the bw camp near eberswalde then?! any bw members with a big garden around there? map: http://v.gd/t3QFhj

sweet, there will be a dyne.org village at the ccc camp. :)

bingo! http://www.bewelcome.org/members/bordue - he lives in finow, which is the exact location of the ccc camp. and he's the only bw member in the area - this is a *sign*. :)

@elfpavlik: good to have you on board, I am in #bewelcome on IRC Freenode most of the day, let's discuss there?

Do we have a space to pitch the tents?

There are a couple of nice guys in CS around the place so we could contact them to use there garden :)

What do you think?

@crumbking: to get a place with space for tents is the idea. but we have not found a place yet. the bw member in finow is travelling at the moment, his friends didn't get back to him yet and the people i contacted at the sustainability college in eberswalde didn't reply to my email from tuesday yet (probably on summer vacation).

so yes, we should contact cs people. who do you have in mind?

i will go to finow this saturday (30 july) to have a look around on my bike. it would be good if we had one or two people to meet by then. does anyone want to join on saturday?

@elfpavlik: let's have a decision on drupal first and then see what we do from there. i personally would be excited about a migration to drupal! and i think i'm not the only one.. :)

@planetcruiser I guess for now everyone can decide on one own which repository wants to work with... what later runs on bewelcome.org I would see as distinct topic! Another plus in D7 I like - RDF support =) I don't know if anyone would like to work on adding it to Rox from scratch... Anyhow let's focus on preparing the camp first...

How about making 2-3 days BIO dumbsterdiving marathon in Berlin just before the camp and trying to process and preserve some food for the weekend?

@elfpavlik: i like the idea of bio dumpster diving! :) i will go directly from hamburg to finow on thursday before the meeting, so i can't help with it unfortunately..

someone from http://www.hnee.de/ college got back to me. he doesn't have a place for us yet, but i have two more contacts now. :) i'm on it!

Since the last time i've really done programming was in assembler&pascal on Apple II's (1MHz cpu! 64kB ram! Wow!), I doubt if I will be of much use; I might want to listen online&make 1 or another comment if I can. Since I share your like for nature, I live in a valley away from electricity&nets.

I just post to cheer you, nice to know that BeWelcome is alive&kicking, and that there there are affinities such as like for dyne. -:bolic would deserve resurrection, doesn't it?

i just had the confirmation on the phone - we got a location! :) it's the concert/judo hall in the countryside that i visited last saturday. i updated http://www.bewelcome.org/wiki/Berlin_summer_camp with all the new information.

@ngonzalez: be welcome to join us online! :) we will announce a chat room at the beginning of the meeting.

@forestandgarden: thanks for your cheering up, something is happening!

@tchatchez: i'm pleased to read that even while on the atlantic ocean bewelcome.org is being visited!

@thorgal67: maybe you can participate online? we will try to have some sort of live feed that people can follow..

@planetcruiser: I'll try to be in that chat room too, but I don't think I will be able to do much. I'm travelling in Colombia around that time, and it is blazing hot there on the Caribean coast! But if possible, I'll add my 2 cents :)

Great that the location is confirmed!

@planetcruiser  : could you add the exact adress of the judo hall.

See you soon people (I guess, still not sure...)

@bikepunk yes, the hall is quite big, so you can easily sleep there if you bring mattress and sleeping bag.

the address of judo halle is Altenhofer Str. 57, 16227 Eberswalde

we have a location... great!

on the other side I got confused with dates and now I have coliding arrangements =(

someone from Pro7 - Galileo http://www.prosieben.de/tv/galileo/ program have contacted me asking about recording some material on moneyless living for their 'week on money', we've made an appointment for 13th - 15th since while on a phone somehow it thought that 10th - 12th marks our weekend... now i will stay occupied by tv crew on that weekend.

do you think i could still come on sunday bringing them with me? we could still at least touch base on some topics related to 'Federated Social Web' and distributed services, plus I see hospitality culture as one of foundamental part making posible for me to already live strictly moneyelss, so giving BeWelcome some presence in a material on this topics seams to make sense for me...

my appologies for putting myself in posistion of not fully participating in our meeting, i hope we will improve our framework for remote collaboration and later keep the momentum in cyberspace =)

hello everyone, could the "not sure yet" participants go to http://www.bewelcome.org/wiki/Berlin_summer_camp please and move their names to "definitively coming" (preferred), "online" or the new "not coming" section please? so we know how many people to expect.

we (i, hehe) are paying for the location, so right now if we are really only 4-5 people, it would be a bit of a waste of resources and we could do it at someone's house instead. ;) anyway, i don't want that to happen, so pretty please, make up your mind, people! :)

you can join the meeting by web chat via http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=bewelcome - it's a bit "nerdy", but it uses the irc chat room that some of us already hang out in most of the day anyway. does this work for everyone?

regarding an agenda, i suggest to make some sort of time table once a few people arrived here tonight, so online participants and people from the ccc camp could join for a specific session. or THE party, which needs some planning, too, btw. :)

After a great Staturday evening barbeque in front of the Judo hall we moved over the airfield towards the CCC. We played some tetris, listen to the geek japperdy, enjoyed the fireplace next to a tank and met a lot of interesting groups and people. (buddycloud, CCC local groups, web privacy movements, ...)

in the Set_up BW Drupal HowTo says Drupal 6 is mentioned.
Aren t we are goigng to use the Drupal 7 Version?

BTW: If there is a thought about another meeting in the next couple of months I could offer my place down in the south-west of Germany.

@fabzgy i changed the wording, i hope this more clear now: "Drupal 7 has no Ubuntu package yet, so we install Drupal 6 to pull the necessary packages (dependencies) and remove it straight away, but keep the dependencies"

cool, thanks for the offer for a meeting place. let's see how things go and keep it in mind! :)
