Do I have to provide my phone number? I don't like being contacted by phone at all.

You are not required to provide your phone number at all. If you don't want people to contact you by phone, you can either remove or hide your phone number in your profile. Other members can contact you using the secure message mechanism on the site and those messages will be sent through to your email address.
