written by thorgal67 - 2014/07/23 11:27

Are you looking for a cool way to spend the first week(s) of August? Why not join hundreds of other travelers who will be hitchhiking to Albania to join the 2014 Hitchgathering!

Want to leave now already? No problem, there are numerous pre-gathering on the road to Albania. Just check the official 2014 Hitchgathering website.

Since there is no fixed agenda, it is up to YOU to make it happen!

So stick out your thumb, bring a tent, your guitar and some stories, and tell us all about it later in our Hitchhiker's Group.

Damn, I told so many people that I'll be there but as I am still in Northern Norway, I'll probably not make it down to Albania fast enough. Sorry everybody.

Hey guys !

Just a little advice about hitchhiking in Albania. Since they have a really cheap and efficient van network, hitchhiking is not in their culture (why would they bother do such a thing when you can do Shkodra Tirana ~150km for less than 4€.)

If you hitchhike, you'll probably have only those vans stopping or people kindly helping you to find one

I'd suggest you to just hop in, cause you can't get a more "albanian" experience than taking a 9 sits van with 18 other persons :).

Tumulte, while shared taxis will stop for you in Albania sometimes, so will lots of ordinary cars. Hitchhiking may not be a big part of Albanian culture, but lots of drivers understand foreigners waiting to get lifts for free. Furthermore, the hitchgathering is going to be along the coast, and that part of Albania sees hitchhikers every summer.

What a shame
