It's been a while...

...since the last software release. The waiting is over and the latest release is packed with stuff that we (the dev team) hope you like:

  • The mail notification software was rewritten. Notification will now be in HTML and (roughly) take the same formatting as the post on the site (be aware that pictures might not be loaded in your mail program as they are internal to the site).
  • Messages can now contain formatting. In fact they use the same editor than the rest of the site (except for images).
  • The bug that no comment hint was sent when someone left a comment is fixed as well. Additionally if a new comment is written, the notification will contain the comment text as well.
  • As some people don't like to receive messages in HTML a new preference was added to only receive plain text messages.
  • The custom Google search on the forums and groups was removed and a new forum search introduced. That is still work in progress as it only shows up to 15 results, but that will of course change in the future.
  • It should now be possible to use BeWelcome on a secure channel without any mixed content warnings.
  • During signup new members are asked for their mother tongue now. This was a request of the New Member BeWelcome team which now also has a (basic) tool to greet our new members.
  • Given the high number of possible languages to choose from the user interface was adapted so that you should be able to find your languages faster. This is used during signup and if you edit your profile.

Unfortunately BeWelcome currently lacks people to help to test new software releases. As we couldn't wait any longer for release there might be rough edges around, so please comment below if you find a problem so that we can smooth the edges for you.

This all wouldn't have been possible without the help of tsjoek, crumbking and thorgal67.

A full list (of rather technical) of changes can be found on Trac.

Thank you, Shevek ...

Thanks Shevek for the nice job, the email notification looks more rich now.

I found 2 small problems:

1/ sender of the email notifications became myself (showing "BW sammiekong" as sender). I suppose it should show the member who posted the answer in the thread instead.

2/ I used Windows Live Mail to receive emails. In my mail box, the message doesn't auto-adjust the width, and it's quite narrow, resulting the message to have a long display .

Thanks a million!

There is no field where I can write when I try to send a message to a member..? Is it linked to the update :D?

To add at least one language during profile set up helps the NMBW Team a lot.
The developed tool is a huge step forward and support the welcoming of new members too.

An absolute amazing and superb support done!!!
-> Thanks to the whole dev. team ;)

Big thank you Shevek

Thank you so much for the welcoming tool. But today there is something wrong : when I click on the link to do a greeting, the message box doesn't appear anymore. I can send a message from the profile, but then the button of the greeting doesn't disappear from the list. That way I think people will be greeted many times, because other greeters can't see that that person is greeted already. A bug? Yesterday it worked fine !

Bug when inviting people to a city group

written by torsten - 4 years ago (i)
I don't know it this is the right place, but I couldn't find another one. So I'd like to report a bug:

on when I like to invite a member an I type a members name than:
a) firstly the words "Gib den Benutzernamen ein" don't vanish automatically, one has to delete them
b) secondly after having typed the name of a member (e.g. "Givi") and having hit "enter" another page opens, that has nothing to do with inviting members (

Could you post in the bugs group:
Otherwise it gets lost here...

@Shevek: Could you turn of this flash notice? I mean it's all over the place. And a software release is great but not so great to put in on every page ;-)

Last time people scolded me for not informing them properly, so I thought it's time for a bit more visibility :-)

@shevek: damned if you do, damned if you don't.

No pictures?

written by eswishy - 4 years ago (i)
When I try to put pictures in a reply to a discussion, it doesn't let me upload them - it wants a source. That's difficult. Also, even when I had a source, the image appeared broken to everyone but me.

Don't know why!

-no picture?-

written by girandoliere - 4 years ago (i)
@eswishy: just find the image ( please be aware about the picture's copyright); click on right side of your mouse; save image url; then open your post on Bw Forum; use the tool "insert image" and paste the image url into "source"; then decide the size's easy do you?

layout bug blog post edit/create

written by forestandgarden - 4 years ago (i)
Happens to me in the current version of FireFox: If I create or edit a blog post, the line length exceeds the edit frame, so as I write, the content of the edit frame scrolls horizontally, and so do the other elements around from the riders until the submit button. Everything behaves as if there were a horizontal scrollbar, but unfortunately there isn't, so I have to use the arrow keys to put the cursor to the left edge of the edit frame in order to be able to click the submit (Create or Edit Post) button. Since there is this workaround. it's all more on the funny side, but it's a bug.
