Be active and (hopefully) less confused

written by shevek - 2013/05/01 20:47

Hi all,

the dev team just released a new version of the software that drives BeWelcome.

  • This release includes one long awaited feature: Activities. Checkout the feature here: http://www.bewelcome.org/activities
  • The other big change is that there is now a landing page which shows you posts to groups and the BW forum in separate lists. During testing people said they like it better than the old setup and other said the old setup was less confusing. So please add your voice (either as a comment or start a discussion in the BW forum) so that we can decide if we should revert this change or keep it.
  • For people that prefer there privacy we added better support for SSL.
  • For the list of your forum posts you can now decide to show it to other members while in the past it was always visible to everyone.
  • The mails send in case of a subscriptions now show the username of the poster as sender instead of BeWelcome and the subject was streamlined a bit.

The full list of changes can be found in Trac.

Thanks to everyone who supported this endeavor,
shevek

Landing page

written by mastermind - 6 years ago (i)

I just refreshed the landing page at http://www.bewelcome.org/forums now as i am involved in a discussion about the ethics and moral about spooning / forking / kniving / chopsticking groups :-) and i was positively surprised about the new layout of the page!

Well done, keep up the good work!!!

Activities & groups/forum

Thanks so much for activities! Well done.

On groups and BeWelcome forum:

The important improvement here is the separation of groups from the forum. Thanks. Let's make clear that reverting to the old "mess" is not an option, only the question if direct access to both from the menu is preferable. For me: definitely!

Moving threads

Looking good!

Forum Moderators will probably have a lot of work in the beginning with moving threads to the appropriate "forum", but I think they will manage.

Spam filter?

written by thorgal67 - 6 years ago (i)
I don't know if it has anything to do with the recent changes, but I am now receiving some of the messages from new forum posts in my "spam" folder on Gmail.
Does anybody else experience the same?

Before 1.7 all posts were send by 'forum@bewelcome.org'. Now group posts are send from 'group@bewelcome.org'.

Additionally the users name is added to the sender. That's a technique used by spammers so GMail might decide that the mails are sent by a spam bot.

So I guess you need to alter the spam settings and qwhitelist bewelcome.org.

Thanks a lot!

I also prefer the separation of groups and forum posts, but as polyglot said, a direct access to each would be great. I really needed some minutes to find the group-page.

Thanks for the new activities tool I am looking forward to using it soon. I also like the idea of having group posts separated from forum posts maybe

damn! Every time I try to browse the groups, I spend some minutes to figure out where to find them. I would really appreciate a direct access to the groups... Just for the case someone is still following this issue...
