New Zealand wine first in world to disclose carbon footprint on label

Scrutinising bouquet, viscosity and finish on the palate is no longer enough for the accomplished wine connoisseur, reports the Guardian. Now they can consider a vintage’s environmental credentials – for one brand at least. A New Zealand wine has become the first in the world to display the carbon footprint of each individual glass serving on its label – laying bare to the shopper or drinker the full environmental impact of making and transporting it. Are you as fed up by all the plastic surrounding us as I am? Then you might like (or already have heard of) the documentary film Plastic Planet:  an Austrian-German film co-produced by Neue Sentimental Film Entertainment GmbH in Vienna (the lead producer: Thomas Bogner) and the Fire Storm Entertainment AG in Frankfurt (Producer: Daniel Zuta).

From Scotland to the village of Sipson, the site of BAA's planned third runway at Heathrow, environmental activists are fired up. Frustration over December's COP15 cop-out has led many to abandon hope in state-led solutions on climate change and renewable energy. In a poll conducted by treehugger.com, the leading green blog, 48 per cent of respondents, by far the largest group, described the Copenhagen summit as "a big expensive waste of time that failed to deal with an urgent problem". So how best to get that view across?
