A discussion about an unconference was started in January. I vaguely proposed my apartment in Brussels as a possible location. And suddenly it was the most popular option. So here it is. From Friday March 1st till Sunday March 3rd We're having a participant-driven meeting (aka unconference) about (and to improve) various aspects of BeWelcome. Most important, there will be discussions and related wiki edits, but expect also some work on code.
This is the second BW event in my apartment in Brussels within one year. The previous one was a hackathon event that lasted more than one week, with a lot of focus on code and it allowed coders to get to know eachother. It was a lot of fun and some stuff happened. It wasn't just BeWelcome, the Hitchwiki.org layout was heavily improved by Mikael. As far as BW code, a big start was made with moving to Symfony and some meeting functionality was written. The latter is still not in use and personally I would like to see this move forward a little bit during the upcoming unconference, which will be a bit shorter (3 days instead of 13 or so) and now also non-coders (aka normal people) will be very welcome.
Thus far we have 6 confirmed participants and 9 more people who might or might not come. It's definitely going to be fun. Check the related Piratepad and let me know if you're coming!
P.S. I expect some more BW unconferences in 2013 as anyone is free to organize one and BW is growing nicely :)
